Segowea Builds Character

Campers develop self-confidence and self-respect as they make new friends, meet challenges, and learn to cooperate. They assume daily responsibilities, from making beds and setting tables to choosing and planning activities. The rhythm of camp balances group activities with individual pursuits, and education with recreation. There is time to learn, play, and just be. And there is always time to talk about what matters.

Segowea is a "Home Away From Home"

Up to eight campers, a counselor, and an assistant counselor or a counselor-in-training make our cozy cabins home for the session. Groups of cabins form separate boys' and girls' villages. A central bathhouse is located just steps away for showers and restrooms. The summer camp community shares three meals a day served family style in the dining hall or at a lakeside barbeque.

Segowea has Top-Notch Staff

Because YMCA Camp Wa Wa Segowea is committed to providing children with the most positive experience possible, only the best of the best applicants are selected to staff the camp. Counselors are college-age young adults who care about children. They are loving, patient, responsible, dedicated to teaching and they like sharing safe outdoor fun! Counselors are certified by the American Red Cross in first aid and CPR and complete a 1-2 week staff training.

Segowea Provides a Quality Program

Camp Segowea has extensive programming that includes time on the water and in the woods, on our athletic fields and in our historic lodge. Our own private lake is the perfect setting for all kinds of waterfront activities from swimming to canoeing to kayaking to sailing to rowing and fishing. Other skills classes include archery, arts & crafts, sports zone, outdoor living skills and photography. Additionally, we offer an overnight camping experience and all-camp "Olympics" on alternating weeks.

Additionally, the entire Camp participates in the daily "Community Circle" which is a time of community and connection. New and traditional camp songs are sung, the YMCA core values (Honesty, Caring, Respect and Responsibility) are presented, and discussions about how to link the good things at Camp world the wider world are fostered.
