Being on staff at YMCA Camp Wa Wa Segowea is an amazing experience. It is greatly challenging but even more rewarding. The monetary gains are not high, but the such experience is sought after by employers and personally invaluable. The time spent at Wa Wa Segowea will reap rewards long after the halcyon days of summer have ended.
Camp Counselor--Segowea counselors lead safe, positive, and fun activities with campers throughout the day. Their primary responsibility is to supervise their own cabin group of campers. They will fulfill other roles in camp such as lifeguarding duties, night watch and programming activities. You must be 19 and have completed one year of college to be a Senior Counselor.
Junior Counselor--The role of the Junior Counselor is to assist the Senior Counselors in the supervision of campers. They are expected to bond with the campers but also to maintain a steady professionalism that is the necessary component of being a leader. You must be 17 and have completed your junior year in high school to be a Junior Counselor.
Unit Director--Segowea has a girls unit director and a boys unit director. These positions supervise and support the campers and staff of their unit. They are experienced former counselors who set the tone for an incredible summer through daily activities. They are also responsible for supervising, guiding, and evaluating the counselors in their unit. You must be 21 to be a Unit Director.
Waterfront Director--The primary role of the waterfront director is to make the waterfront a safe and positive area. He or she will supervise all water activities, including swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and sailing. Depending upon circumstances the waterfront director may also be a Senior Counselor. You must be 21 to be a Unit Director.
Office Manager--This position will be responsible for day-to-day office duties such as working with camper registrations, covering the phones, camper emails and any other tasks deemed necessary by the Camp Director.
