Pedaling for Parkinson’s

Pedaling For Parkinson'sPedaling for Parkinson’s is a new program specifically designed to help those who suffer from Parkinson’s disease. The program focuses on research that indicates that pedaling a bicycle may change the life of someone with Parkinson’s disease. Research conducted at the Cleveland Clinic showed a 35% reduction in symptoms by the simple act of pedaling a bicycle at a rapid pace ― optimally 80-90 revolutions per minute. Fast pedaling is not a cure of Parkinson’s disease, but there is compelling evidence that it can make a difference for those who try it.

Pedaling for Parkinson’s is designed for
  • those who are 30 to 75 years old
  • those who have been diagnosed with Idiopathic Parkinson’s disease
Prior to joining the program, each participant needs to meet with a member of the Capital District YMCA’s wellness team, and provide a completed consent form and medical clearance form, and agree to periodically monitor their progress.
