The Capital District YMCA Child Care Goals.

  • Help children to develop a healthy self-esteem.
  • Allow children to learn through discovery and play.
  • Offer developmentally appropriate activities that help children develop physically, emotionally, intellectually, and socially.
  • Involve children in some aspect of planning their own activities.

The Capital District YMCA Child Care is Unique.

The Hannaford Child Development Center uses the “Creative Curriculum” as the blueprint for planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate program for infants, toddlers and preschool children. The ultimate goal of the YMCA staff is to help young children acquire social competence and the skills they need to succeed as learners.

The “Creative Curriculum” takes research on child development to the classroom, appreciating general patterns of growth in all children as well as the differences a teacher will encounter in individual children. Children participating in the program will be able to explore, make things, experiment, and pursue their own interests.

Interest areas in the classroom include but not limited to:
  • Blocks Dramatic Play Toys and games
  • Art
  • Library
  • Discovery
  • Sand and Water
  • Music and Movement
  • Cooking
  • Computers
